Future Jobs Fund

The Future Jobs Fund is a government initiative announced in 2009 which aims to create 150,000 additional jobs, primarily aimed at 18-24 year olds who have been out of work for nearly a year to deliver real benefits to communities. From early 2010, everyone in between the ages of 18 and 24 who has been looking for work for a year will get an offer of a job, work experience, or training lasting at least 6 months.

In October 2009, a Berkshire-wide bid was submitted for the Future Jobs Fund. The bid was coordinated by Grow Our Own who are co-funded by Bracknell Forest and Windsor and Maidenhead councils. As part of the bid, Bracknell Forest Council submitted 33 job proposals within various departments including Adult Social Care, Children’s Social Care and arts and heritage.

The Green Machine also submitted a bid of 15 jobs.

It has been confirmed the Berkshire-wide bid has been accepted and the DWP has requested that all participating authorities finalise the details regarding the number of job proposals and also the starts dates up to March 2011.

It is anticipated that the Green Machine posts will commence in April 2010 on a staggered basis to run in line with the seasonal nature of the work and for the council posts to commence as of February 2010.
