Service Standards - Housing and Benefits
General housing
We will maintain a Housing Register and will allocate housing in accordance with our Housing Allocation scheme. The Bracknell Forest Policy for the Allocation of Housing is available on the website or by contacting the Housing Options Team.
If you need to move to a new home, you can apply to go on the housing register. We will assess all applications within 28 working days. If you are assessed as eligible for housing you will be added to the register.
The Council will use a points scheme to assess the housing need of each applicant who falls within the reasonable and additional preference categories. You will be notified of your points total within 5 working days of your application being registered.
If you have applied for Sheltered Housing, and you live in the borough, a Scheme Manager will visit you to explain sheltered housing and answer any queries you have within 28 working days of the completion of your application assessment.
Every applicant is entitled to see their entry on the Housing Register and the Environment, Culture and Communities Department will, if requested, supply a copy free of charge within 5 working days.
We will provide advice about housing and homelessness to anyone who requests it.
The Housing Advice Duty Officer will try to see anyone who needs urgent/ immediate advice about housing and homelessness who comes in to the Social Services and Housing Reception on that day.
We will assess all applications from people who are homeless or potentially homeless within 28 working days of receiving all information required.
We will send you a letter within 5 working days of a home visit confirming your housing requirements.
If you need to be assessed for your home’s suitability and for adaptations, we will visit you to discuss whether we need to arrange repairs with adaptations or equipment. If requested, we will confirm the advice in writing within 10 working days.
Benefits
We will provide you with information about any welfare benefits which may be available to help you secure housing.
