These pages provide web content authors and approvers with guidance on the production of web pages. They - and the wider website standards - are constantly evolving, and should be referred to regularly to ensure that you are up to date with the latest guidance.
Web Content Checklist
These pages summarise the basic rules for creating web content:
- Check for use of Plain English; avoid jargon or using ‘local government speak’
- Give pages meaningful titles
- Apply text consistently
- Explain acronyms
- Avoid abbreviations such as ‘eg’, ‘etc’ and ‘ie’
- Avoid using ampersands (&)
- Only use capitals when they are needed
- Take care when using links
- Avoid using click here for links
- Advice on the use of pictures, logos and other images
- No clipart or animated graphics
- PDFs are the only acceptable document download format
- Add contact details to all pages
- Avoid using personal email addresses
- Use the agreed page naming convention
- Use grey boxes sparingly to highlight important information
