Environmental Health and Safety - Commercial Team

Warning Sign - You are entering a food production areaWe are part of the Environmental Health and Safety Section and are responsible for the enforcement of the Food Safety Act 1990 and associated legislation in over 800 premises throughout Bracknell.

Our responsibilities include:

  • Helping food premises maintain a safe business; both by carrying out regular inspections, and by offering education courses, advice and practical help
  • Promptly investigating enquiries and complaints about unfit food, food premises and practices, infectious disease (including food poisoning), and taking appropriate action as necessary
  • Operating the Berkshire Safe Food Award scheme for businesses that consistently maintain high standards of legal compliance in food safety
  • Providing a wide range of information leaflets to help businesses comply with the law
  • Registration of all food premises
  • Taking part in national campaigns to promote food safety in the Borough

Food Premises Registration

If you run a food business you will need to register the food business with us. There is no charge for registration and it cannot be refused.

New Food Businesses

Anyone starting a new food business must register (as above) with the local authority at least 28 days before doing so.
