Listed Buildings

Sandhurst Royal Military Academy

Listed buildings are heritage buildings which have been 'listed' because of their special historical or architectural importance. Listing takes place under Part I, (sections 1-68) of the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990.

What buildings are listed?

The National Heritage List for England is a searchable database of all nationally-designated heritage assets including Listed Buildings, Scheduled Monuments, Registered Parks and Gardens, Registered Battlefields and Protected Wrecks.

Listed building consent

You will need to apply to the council for listed building consent if:

  • You want to demolish a listed building
  • You want to alter or extend a listed building in a manner which would affect its character as a building of special architectural or historic interest

You may also need listed building consent for any works to separate buildings within the grounds of a listed building.

If you are in any doubt please check the position with us – it is a criminal offence to carry out work which needs listed building consent without obtaining it beforehand.
