The South East Plan
The Regional Spatial Strategy, the South East Plan, was adopted as part of the Development Plan in May 2009.
Whilst the coalition government announced the revocation of the Regional Spatial Strategy in June 2010, this was successfully challenged by CALA Homes (South) Ltd and as such the South East Plan remains part of the Development Plan.
The Localism Act puts in place the legislative measures for the abolition of regional strategies. The formal abolition is currently subject to Strategic Environmental Assessment of the impact of their removal.
In the meantime, the proposed abolition of the South East Plan can be regarded as a ‘material consideration’ by local planning authorities and planning inspectors when deciding planning applications.
