14-19 Education
In 2005 the government published the 14-19 Education and Skills White Paper which outlined a programme of reform focusing on how young people would learn between the ages of 14-19 years old.
The scale and scope of this reform agenda are broad, and will affect all aspects of provision. There are three key drivers for the reform agenda:
- Economic – creating a highly skilled workforce to meet the challenges of a global economy
- Social Justice – ensuring that background shouldn’t determine success
- Personalisation – meeting each individual’s needs, whatever their abilities and aspirations
The Bracknell Forest Secondary Partnership provides strategic leadership of the response to the challenges of 14-19 reform. The partnership meets regularly to discuss a number of issues relating to the development of education and training provision. In 2008, the Partnership and the Borough Council approved the 14-19 Education Plan, covering the period up to 2013.
The Secondary Partnership is comprised of representatives from all secondary schools (including Kennel Lane and College Hall), Bracknell and Wokingham College, the Local Authority, Connexions Berkshire and the East Berkshire Education Business Partnership.
The Berkshire 16-19 Prospectus has also been implemented. This enables young people and parents to access information about courses available at all schools, colleges and training providers within the area to young people post-16. This website will continue to develop as we are able to offer all learners aged 14-plus a wide variety of courses and subjects. Young people aged 16-plus will also have the opportunity to make applications for continuing education and training (including apprenticeships) at all the local schools and colleges online.
The Secondary Partnership is continuing to enhance learning for all young people in the borough through collaboration.
