Local Parks Photo Competition 2010

Coot at South Hill Park by Keith Palmer - Winner of Local Parks Photo Competition 2009The theme of this year's photo competition run by the Parks & Countryside Service in Bracknell Forest is "Biodiversity in Bracknell" to commemorate twenty ten being International Year of Biodiversity.

Biodiversity can be defined as "The existence of a wide range of different types of organisms in a given place at a given time. The diversity of plant and animal life in a particular habitat, or in the world as a whole".

As in previous years, the competition is open to amateur photographers and photographs should be taken within the Bracknell Forest Borough boundary; in parks, open spaces, countryside, gardens, forest and heath - in fact wherever the subject of biodiversity in all its scope and variety can be seen and photographed. See the full terms and conditions for the 2010 competition.

The only additions to last year's terms and conditions are:

  • to clarify that images may be digitally enhanced to remove spots or scratches, but not manipulated. Entrants can enhance the picture to make it brighter, clearer and so on, but not to manipulate the content, for example to add an object to a photograph from another source, or to distort proportions. The judges reserve the right to exclude any image they believe may have been excessively treated so as to alter its authenticity; and
  • in addition to agreeing that the Council may use entered images as prints, in leaflets and publications and on the Council website, they may also be added to a Flickr album.

Judging will be carried out by a panel consisting of at least four judges from varying backgrounds, including arts and heritage, South Hill Park Arts Centre, councillors and parks and countryside officers.

Winning photographs will be exhibited at South Hill Park early in 2011, and may also be exhibited in libraries, Council office reception areas and on the Council's public website. The exhibition of 2009 competition entries took place in the Community Gallery at South Hill Park from 6 February to 4 April and was viewed and enjoyed by many visitors to the arts centre.

The official launch date for this year's competition is 1 June 2010 and the closing date is 5pm on Friday 1 October 2010.

For further information, please contact Graham Pockett at Time Square, by email at Park.Photos@bracknell-forest.gov.uk or telephone 01344 354107.

We hope everyone who enters will enjoy taking part and look forward to seeing all the images, and being able to congratulate the finalists later this year.
