South Hill Park is a 23 hectare site to the south of Bracknell town centre in Birch Hill.

Facilities and key features

  • South Hill Park is a Grade II listed Edwardian mansion surrounded by landscaped gardens and parkland with two lakes and areas of woodland.
  • The parkland is designated as a Grade II Registered Park of Special Historic Interest.
  • The park provides a valuable wildlife habitat with its woodlands of birch, oak, sweet chestnut and exotic species, parkland areas with formal lawns, two lakes (which act as balancing ponds) and wetland areas. For further information see Bracknell’s Trees.
  • The park is popular with the public for walking, picnicking and general relaxation.
  • A network of easily accessible paths enables visitors to explore the site which includes a formal Italian garden at the rear of the house.

Events and activities

  • The play area at the site provides entertainment for children in addition to programmed events and activities, ranging from pond dipping to bat watching.
  • South Hill Park house is an arts centre that incorporates art galleries, a dance studio and theatre. For more information about the arts centre, visit the South Hill Park Arts Centre website.
  • It is also Bracknell's leading venue for large public events, such as the half marathon, The Big Day Out and music festivals.

How to get there

There are a number of ways that you can access South Hill Park, including a large car park off Ringmead and a bus stop approximately 300m away. Two adopted cycle routes also cross the site, which incorporates a series of flat surfaced paths.

Management of the site

Management is a partnership between Bracknell Forest Council, Bracknell Town Council and South Hill Park Arts Centre. The area to the south of Ringmead is owned and managed by Bracknell Forest Council, while the northern area is managed by Bracknell Town Council. Both lakes are owned by Thames Water and act as balancing ponds for the town.
