Citizenship Ceremonies
The process is started when you apply to the Home Office for British Citizenship.
When your application is complete, the Home Office will contact you inviting you to contact your Register Office to book into a ceremony.
At the same time, the Home Office contact us with your Citizenship Certificate. On receipt of your certificate, we will write to you, giving details of our next ceremony and alternative arrangements should you require them. We will also send a questionnaire and all the details you require about the ceremony.
Our ceremonies are held in groups, usually between 10 and 15 people, but numbers are dictated by demand. You are very welcome to bring a couple of guests with you to the ceremony.
On receipt of your questionnaire, we will send an invitation, as well as directions to the ceremony venue.
On arrival at the ceremony, please show your invitation and any other documents requested prior to the ceremony. Refreshments will be served prior to the ceremony.
A pledge card will be handed to you, with the words to the oath or affirmation and pledge that you have to say during the ceremony on it.
The Superintendent Registrar (or deputy) will host the ceremony, and where possible a local dignitary will be in attendance to welcome you to the Borough.
After speeches of welcome, the Superintendent Registrar will invite you to swear the Oath of allegiance or, if you prefer to speak the affirmation of allegiance (as chosen on your questionnaire). If you are going to swear the Oath before Almighty God, you may bring a holy book with you.
The Dignitary will then present your citizenship certificate; you will also be presented with a welcome pack and gift from Bracknell Forest Borough Council. You will then be invited to sign the Bracknell Forest Citizenship Register. The ceremony is closed with the playing of the National Anthem.
Your guests are welcome to take photographs of the certificate presentation and/or register signing.
If you would prefer to arrange an individual ceremony, this is possible at the Syrett Suite. Please contact us for full details.
For guidance, fees for individual ceremonies are as follows
| Syrett Suite | Monday to Friday | £45 | 12 guests permitted |
| Syrett Suite | Saturday morning | £200 | 58 guests permitted |
