Stroke Strategy

Stroke Strategy Front Cover Image

The Council has recently published a two year strategy for people recovering from stroke, their families and their carers.  The number of people predicted to be affected by stroke is steadily rising and we need to plan support and services to ensure we can meet needs and help people to achieve their outcomes.

FAQs

What is a strategy?
A strategy takes an overall view of individuals’ needs and the needs of the community. Using this information, the Council then looks at how they can help people to have choice and control over the support they need. This could be by making agreements with local service providers to meet those needs, and enabling people to choose support they feel will make a difference to their lives.

Who was involved in the development of the strategy?
The Bracknell Stroke Network is a group whose members include representation from across the voluntary and community sector, NHS Berkshire East and Adult Social Care at Bracknell Forest Council. This group contributed their views and experiences and we involved people recovering from stroke and their carers and families. We conducted interviews and sent questionnaires and people told us what they thought about the support currently available and where the gaps were.

How did you identify the priorities in the strategy?
We listened to what people told us about their experiences of existing support for people who have had a stroke and this informed our priorities. We also included other important factors such as information the government told us about how support should look in the future.

We considered how many people in Bracknell Forest are likely to be affected by stroke in the future and thought about how we could reduce some of the risk factors and improve existing support and services.

By gathering all this information, we were able to assess the needs of people who have had a stroke and their families and carers in Bracknell Forest and plan for the future
