Sale of Small Areas of Amenity Land
This information is for the benefit of home owners who are considering acquiring a small area of council-owned amenity land adjacent to their property.
A large number of properties in Bracknell Forest are in private ownership following the sitting tenant's right to purchase under General Consent and the Right to Buy. Many of the open spaces (amenity land) adjacent to the houses remain in the ownership of the Council. This is particularly the case on the estates built by Bracknell Development Corporation and later by the Council.
Currently, the Council's policy is to consider the sale of such small areas of land, while having regard to any technical, operational or environmental implications of any sale.
In dealing with the sale of amenity land, the Council’s principal concern is to ensure that the character and appearance of the locality is not harmed. Many of the Borough’s estates are open plan in character and appearance, so any form of enclosure is likely to have an impact. This impact need not be adverse depending on the nature of the enclosure, its height and construction.
