You can organise or join in with planned community clean ups. Bracknell Forest Council can assist by providing loan equipment such as litter pickers, bin bags, graffiti removal kits and rakes. If you or your group undertake regular clean ups and would like litter pickers on a long term loan basis then we may be able to facilitate this, we can also arrange to have the rubbish you have collected removed and disposed of.
Take Pride encourages and supports community garden projects and the efforts of volunteers to enhance the environment of the local community.
Bracknell Forest Council can assist community garden projects by means of horticultural advice and loan of equipment.
Your communities horticultural efforts could also be rewarded by entering the ‘Your Gardens’ community garden competition which could win you garden centre vouchers to reinvest in your local area.
Individuals and groups can also volunteer for conservation projects, many of which are carried out alongside the Parks and Countryside Ranger service.
The main aim of Crime Awareness Patrols is to raise people’s awareness of how they can unintentionally increase the risk of becoming a victim of crime.
Crime Awareness Patrols are run by the Police and carried out in association with Neighbourhood Action Group members.
The patrols involve walking around residential areas and car parks looking for things that might inadvertently cause a crime, such as valuables being left in view inside parked vehicles, in these cases the vehicle’s details are noted down and letters sent to the owner informing them of the risks they face.
Could you spare an hour each month? If so, you could become a CoBRA community pioneer. We'll supply you with a collection box to put in your local shop, post office or community centre. When it's full, you just need to take the contents to a local bulking up centre, it's that simple! Just visit www.recolight.cobrascheme.com.
Be prepared and able to support your community and vulnerable neighbours.
Check on your vulnerable neighbours and support your community by undertaking activities such as leaf and snow clearance to assist with maintaining access to properties.
Speeding has been identified as a priority concern by a number of the Neighbourhood Action Groups.
To assist with tackling this issue the Speed Watch initiative was established and specialist speed indication equipment funded by Bracknell Forest Council was acquired through ‘Take Pride’. Speed Watch involves monitoring the speed of vehicles on identified roads which are causing particular concern to local residents. Thames Valley Police & Neighbourhood Action Group members using a Speed Indication Device, or SID, are working in co-operation to tackle this issue.
The SID equipment is available on a loaned basis from Bracknell Forest Council.
Volunteer to help out in an emergency
We are currently looking for volunteers that may be able to help out by supporting our rest centre plan. A rest centre is a facility that could be opened in the event of an emergency, for example if a number of houses are evacuated due to a fire.
The facility could be opened at any time of the day or night and is used to provide welfare and accommodation. If you have good people and/or administration skills and wish to volunteer, please contact emergency.planning@bracknell-forest.gov.uk or 01344 352505 for further information.
