Measuring Council Performance

The Council has a variety of mechanisms for measuring its performance. These include:

Annual Report

Each year the Council publishes its Annual Report which contains the Council’s work plans for the coming year. The Annual Report also contains a summary of how the Council performed against the targets it set for the previous year.

The Council has a Performance Monitoring system in place to ensure that it completes the work set out in the Annual Report.

Community Plan

Performance Monitoring Reports

Every quarter, each service department produces a statement of how well they are performing against the objectives and targets set in their Service Plan. These reports are assessed by the Corporate Management Team, elected Members and Scrutiny Panels. In this way the Council is able to monitor its progress steadily, over time, identifying emerging issues and take appropriate and proportionate action from a broad base of knowledge and expertise.

The Scrutiny and Performance team in the Chief Executive’s Office is tasked with assessing the relevance, timeliness and quality of the data that the Council records to help make sure that it does not just measure and record performance, but also monitors and manages local performance over time within the broader national context.

Corporate Performance Overview Reports

At the end of each quarter, the Chief Executive provides a high level summary report of performance across all services to the Executive. It identifies achievements as well as areas of concern and demonstrates how action is being taken where it is required
