Planning Council Performance

At the Council planning involves consulting on and setting objectives, quantifying targets for achievement and communicating these targets to others. Corporate planning involves the whole organisation and covers three time periods:

  • Long term (approximately 3-10 years)
  • Medium term (approximately 3 years)
  • Short term (approximately 12-15 months)

The mechanisms that the Council uses to plan and manage performance are:

Departmental Service Plans

To sustain focus over the short-term, the Medium Term Objectives are translated into service delivery priorities through Service Plans.

These Service Plans set out a detailed work programme for the coming twelve months for each of the service departments.

The Plans also indicate the performance standards we set against those activities. Progress against our objectives and activities is reported in Quarterly Operations Reports and a quarterly Corporate Performance Overview Report.

Service Plans form the starting point for the preparation of Section Plans and individual employee appraisals, which establish personal objectives and development plans for the year ahead.

Service Plans - Environment, Culture and Communities

Service Plans - Social Care and Learning

Due to the recent restructure of departments we have placed the two new departments; Environment Culture and Communities and Social Care and Learning above. You will find previous service plans for these departments below under their former names:

Service Plans - Environment and Leisure

Service Plans - Social Services and Housing

Staff are one of the Council’s greatest assets. It is important to provide them with a working environment which encourages and supports employees to develop their expertise, abilities, knowledge and skills in such a way that allows them to develop their potential and maximise their own contribution to the achievement of the Council’s objectives.
