Discounts - Patients Resident in Hospitals, Hostels, or Nursing or Care Homes

A discount may be granted for a person living permanently in a hospital, hostel, or nursing or care home. Those temporarily in hospital, or respite care, would not qualify for this discount. If someone has left their own home to permanently live in a hospital, hostel, nursing or care home please write to Revenue Services with the date that they left their own home and advise where they are now living. If a property has been left unoccupied because the owner has entered a hospital, hostel, nursing or care home a Council Tax exemption may be due. Please refer to the page about exemptions for more details.

The council taxpayers of certain hospitals, hostels, nursing or care homes that are only occupied by permanent patients may apply for a discount. The discount would be affected if any staff or the owner themselves also lived on the premises.

To apply for this discount please contact Revenue Services so that we may arrange a visit to the property.
