Overview and Scrutiny - Community Call for Action

The Police and Justice Act 2006 and the Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Bill provide for the ‘Community Call for Action’ (CCfA) process.

The Police and Justice Act states that where a councillor is asked to consider a local crime and disorder matter by a person who lives or works in his/her ward, that councillor shall consider the matter and respond to the person indicating what, if any, action he/she intends to take.

The Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Bill requires each local authority operating executive arrangements to ensure its overview and scrutiny arrangements enable any member of the authority to refer a local government matter affecting the authority’s area to the relevant overview and scrutiny committee for discussion.

The CCfA is yet to come into force as the Act is awaiting a commencement order and the Bill has not received royal assent. This section will be expanded and include a CCfA proforma when the initiative is implemented.
